In this presentation, we will delve into the importance of civility within our educational environments. Civility, defined as respectful and considerate behavior, is crucial for fostering a positive and productive classroom atmosphere. This session is designed for educators who are committed to creating a culture of respect and collaboration among students and faculty.
This session explores the application of Self-Determination Theory in college classrooms to foster student autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Attendees will learn practical strategies for creating an environment that motivates students intrinsically, promotes deeper learning, and improves academic outcomes. The session includes evidence-based practices and real-world examples to enhance student engagement and success.
We'll guide participants through the world of DSS: pre-application, applying for services, goals of the intake meeting, forming a plan, communicating with instructors, and handling hiccups along the way. Participants will practice reading accommodation letters and holding engaging conversations with students about their disability and implementing accommodations. We'll also explore creativity and collaboration when supporting learners with disabilities. This will be an interactive session.
