This session is for Gen-Ed faculty teaching seated courses who want to help students use gen-AI tools ethically and effectively but are unsure where to begin. The session includes an overview of the AI-Education relationship, followed by student demonstrations of AI tools for academic use. Attendees will discuss assumptions about AI and learning, engage in a Q&A with students, and participate in an activity to develop practical strategies for integrating AI as a learning tool into their courses.
It looks pretty on the surface - the way it glitters in the sun and seems so polished! - but upon closer examination, you recognize it for what it is: a giant shiny turd. Did AI do this? This session is a follow-up to “From Algorithms to Academics” and will move the focus from helping students to use gen-AI ethically to helping faculty develop assignments and assessments that discourage AI waste and to keep learning safe from getting flushed down the toilet.
